Disembodied Voices Audio Productions

Before the Whales are Whales Pod-Cast was even a twinkle in the eye's of the members of said pod-cast, they were running a video games podcast called Disembodied Voices. While most of the time they were simply yelling into microphones about stupid games that they had played recently, once in a great while they got together to record entire scripted audio dramas. These audio dramas were often ridiculous, silly and entirely not funny to anyone who didn't understand their humor, however, if this sounds right up your alley, you can find all of the productions created over the years.

The Lunatic Murderer (2011)

When the reddening sun of Thanksgiving Day sinks below the horizon and an eerie full moon rises to take its place, the cast of Disembodied Voices appears to terrify you with a spooky tale of spooky terror. Stephen, Bryan, Zachary, and Cameron have put their powers of acting together for a Thanksgiving special that will probably scare your hat off. This spine-chilling radio drama (it never actually aired on the radio, but it sounds cooler that way) is so full of twists and turns that your very soul will be in a knot by the time its jaw-dropping conclusion arrives. It also has nothing to do with Thanksgiving. Download The Lunatic Murderer now to hear it for yourself, but BEWARE! It’s pretty weird.

How a Little Podcast Saved (and Nearly Ruined) Christmas - Part 1 (2011)

It is Christmastime! Magic and good deeds light the sky of joy like a thousand candles burning with the flame of gingerbread that tastes really great. In this spirit, the DV cast presents a heartwarming Christmas Special that tells a tale of hope, tinged with sadness and teeming with good cheer. The path may be chaotic and even stupid, but a very important lesson is learned in the end. So, if you please, call your friends and family to huddle around the computer as you listen to Stephen, Bryan, Zachary, and Cameron put their fine vocal chords to work in How a Little Podcast Saved (and Nearly Ruined) Christmas.

Because We're Dumber Than Developers (2012)

When the DV Cast gets tired of arguing about videogames and everyone hates everyone else, an idea rises to the surface that can’t possibly go wrong: Collectively create and enjoy a videogame of their own making. Join these brave souls as they pour, like, a whole weekend into building the Official Disembodied Voices Videogame from the ground up— without Kickstarter, even. (That was a topical reference.) This third installment of the Disembodied Voices not-really-radio drama series is Cameron’s debut as writer and director, so raise a glass in respect as you listen to Because We’re Dumber Than Developers.

Sonic Christmas Blast (2012)

Christmas cheer surrounds the world and binds it together like it’s the Force or something, and that can only mean one thing: another Disembodied Voices Christmas Special! This time Stephen’s gone mad with a burning anger about the state of modern Sonic games, and only the magic of Christmas (and ghosts wielding the magic of Christmas) can pull him from the brink of sadness come a holiday season with no blue hedgehog to find under the tree. Make sure your mug of hot cocoa is close at hand, because you’ll need every drop of sustenance as you journey through the dreams of an obsessed Sonic the Hedgehog fan. There’s probably a moral somewhere deep inside this heartfelt rendition of Sonic Christmas Blast, so give a shout if you can figure out what it is in between your tears of joy and sadness.

Disembodied Voices: The Documentary (2013)

Disembodied Voices is a cutting-edge tour de force of modern podcasting, but it, like many things that exist, had a beginning. This captivating documentary chronicles the lives of four unlikely friends as they struggle against colossal odds, creative freedom, and each other. Discover how the DV Cast came– and almost ceased– to be from the brutally honest recordings of Stephen, Bryan, Cameron, and Zachary. As part of the 100th Anniversary Regarding Episode Count Than Actual Years, Disembodied Voices: The Documentary is a deeper look into the astounding podcast with occasional yetis. This is history.

A Christmas Kerfuffle - Part 2 (2013)

As daylight fails, the glow of a thousand thousand homes takes up the torch, bringing hope, and peace, and light to that most special night of Christmas Eve. Meanwhile, the DV Cast are stranded in a ski cabin, no more than a shaken bottle of rage-flavored soda, and should the pressure become too great, just might destroy Christmas and their beloved little podcast. Scriptwriter Bryan returns to the theoretical stage in this follow up to his critically acclaimed audio drama How a Little Podcast Saved (and Nearly Ruined) Christmas, inviting you and yours to partake in this dark middle chapter of a tinsel-tailored trilogy. Please, then: dim the lights, start the fire, and listen on.

Go Big or Go Home! - Part 3 (2014)

Following the disastrous Disembodied Voices Christmas Telethon Variety Show with No Actual Telephone and Questionable Variety (along with Bryan’s failure to redeem the holiday and not die), the third and final act of this holiday special shares with the world one last moral. Stephen, Cameron, and Zachary are in for one sad Christmas as they struggle to make ends meet, but can hope be found in a future without the lovably familiar podcast everyone (or a few people at least) knows and loves?

One would hope so, because this is also the final curtain call for a super fun show that has miraculously lasted almost four years. Yes, for serious, Disembodied Voices is officially shutting down and shutting up– this is a fond, fond, fond (way fond) farewell. To find out why this dreadful day has come to pass, listen to this ridiculous episode full of audio dramas, segments, Christmas, and good memories. But don’t be toooooooooo sad. After all, the DV Cast will be hanging out at Whales are Whales every darn week, including a podcast that resembles this show just a little lot.

So thanks for listening– really, THANKS. It’s been real, and occasionally, distinctly surreal. Have a life!

How Christmas Was Almost Not Ruined: Part 4 (2015)

After years and years of ruined Holidays, mostly due to Zachary and his intense love of all things fire, theDVCast plan to stay far, far away from each other to try to regain a bit of normalcy in their lives. Sadly for them, they never had normal lives to begin with, so everything goes very wrong, very quickly. Like, I mean really, what did you expect from these four? Spoiler alert: everything catches on fire. Again.
